La. senators blast FEMA flood insurance price hikes as a ‘disastrous death spiral’

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Both Louisiana senators, Bill Cassidy and John Kennedy, have come out against FMEA’s new Risk Rating 2.0 system, which has increased the price of flood insurance for thousands in Louisiana.

Kennedy (R-La.) wrote an op-ed criticizing the rating system. Cassidy (R-La.) made statements on the Senate floor blasting President Joe Biden and his administration for not stepping in.

“Like many coastal states, Louisiana sometimes has floods, which is why roughly 500,000 Louisianans depend on the National Flood Insurance Program, run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to protect them from these natural disasters,” Kennedy wrote. “But now FEMA is implementing a new plan that will price its flood insurance well beyond the means of most Louisianans and other Americans.”…………
